The famous white and red letters “I amsterdam” in Amsterdam may soon disappear. Some political parties in the Netherlands are in favor of dismantling them as a symbol of mass tourism.
Members of some political parties appealed to the mayor's office with the requirement to remove the installations, which tourists love to be photographed with. Politicians say that the capital of the Netherlands is suffocating from mass tourism, and therefore does not need to be promoted as a destination.
Already, Amsterdam has reached a critical level of tourist traffic, so the authorities are looking for a "new approach to tourism."
