The mayor of Ayia Napa announced that they will be planting 15,000 trees in the next 1 - 2 years.  The decision was taken after the Municipality conducted a study whereby they asked tourists and locals to rate Ayia Napa for cleanliness, beaches, cultural activities, services and availability of green spaces.

According to the results, the respondents rated the area very low in the availability of green spaces.

Following the results, the municipality hired experts to draw up a proposal to enhance its green spaces.  The proposal received includes replacing existing damaged plants and trees as well as planting new ones.

The trees chosen and to be supplied by the Forestry Department and will be endemic to the Famagusta area of Cyprus such as cornflower, Cypriot oleander, Cypriot oregano, Akamas rosemary and thyme, among others.
